King Kong Company, Taxi Driver Movie 4.6″ Patch and Matching Jump Wings
I’ve always loved the track Dirty Day and it has always sounded, well…dirty! A slow, sleazy track that evokes a gritty scenario and one that was seeking a visual. So there I was, staying up late watching Taxi Driver (again) and it hit me! The two could work together as one theme. The gritty audio of Dirty Day with the dank realism of Taxi Driver. So I decided to combine the two. In my video I’ve concentrated on the main character Travis Bickle, an ex-Vietnam war veteran who slips into mental despair fuelled by paranoia and frustration with the sleaze and corruption that seems to envelop his world. We want to save Travis — and he wants to be saved — but he’s a lost soul in a city that doesn’t care as we watch him slip further and further into isolation until he eventually snaps. There are other fine actors in this movie (Jodie Foster to name but one), but they’re on the periphery and I wanted my video to explore the emotions and sanity of our anti-hero – with whom we can empathise. De Niro IS the greatest actor ever and if you are a film buff then you will realise that the brilliant method acting inspired by Scorsese’s excellent direction are what makes this film a classic. The film itself has since influenced many a director and many an actor. What makes the film is De Niro’s narrative and the powerful score by the late Bernard Hernmann which all add to a moving, unnerving movie that you must see before you die! But don’t expect a slick Hollywood spick and span movie …
Martin Scorsese interview on Taxi Driver. He talks about it’s influences, which include Alfred Hitchcock, Jean-Luc Godard, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, how he got the job after the success of Mean Streets and why the film was a labor of love.
